De Amphicar is ooit bedacht door de auto-ontwerper Hans Trippel en werd in Duitsland gebouwd. Het is het enige amfibievoertuig dat in serie werd gebouwd. Het motorblok was afkomstig van Triumph en de auto werd geproduceerd in Berlijn. Door tegenvallende verkopen (nieuwwaarde was meer dan 10.000 Duitse Mark) werden er bijna 4.000 exemplaren van gebouwd. Anno nu dus een zeer zeldzame auto! De typeaanduiding 770 staat voor de snelheid: 7 knopen op het water en 70 mijl per uur op het land.
